It just depends on preference. When actually wrestling, I think jocks are helpful in keeping everything in place and protected. But some guys feel wearing anything underneath can restrict movement and freeball. And i agree it's more comfortable to go commando underneath when I'm wearing my singlet for any other reason. On my team there were a good mix of jock wearers, freeballers, and compression wearers.
Hard to see (!) how wearing a jock could "restrict movement." That doesn't make any sense. I mean, do wrestlers WANT their balls to "move"? And it's not as if they can't do their wrestling moves in a jock. This argument doesn't hold.

If not commando, then jocked.

So you’re saying the argument is not . . . supported? 😃

As I said once before, wrestlers are the only exception I'd make re jockstraps. They should be naked under their singlets to allow full exposure of their erections.

All other sports, strap up!

LOL For our enjoyment! But as a (potential) participant I’ll opt for the support.

When I said this, I didn't mean to imply that jocks themselves are restrictive, I just meant that some people feel like anything under a singlet can be distracting. And Singlets actually offer a bit more support than you'd expect! Not as much as a jock of course, but they aren't like compressions that I feel just mash everything down. So I know that some guys just felt that doubling up on support wasn't necessary for them. I'm not claiming to be an expert, I was just sharing what a few guys on my team thought!

Looking back on this again, I do want to clarify that I agree with your statement that the argument doesn't hold as one against jocks! I love the extra support that they provide, but I think most guys nowadays just haven't worn a jock before, so they tend to lump them in with things like boxers and boxer briefs etc., which can bunch up under a singlet, without knowing that a jock would never do that. So like no one on my team was arguing against their use or anything, they just prefer being naked underneath as a result. But commando under a singlet is super hot and comfortable too as I know we all agree haha so no problems either way I suppose!

I live near a univ and have changed in a small locker rooms many times that some wrestlers use. It's nice to see them strip and walk naked to the shower; I feel like guys don't do that much anymore, not like when I was in school. Anyway, I snuck an abandoned singlet and tried it on in one of the aisles so I could see myself. I admit to being surprised how good they felt and that, because of their stretchiness, they kind of supplied ball support, so I sort of could see why a guy might go commando. Still, I'd want my low hangers contained and, if I were a wrestler, I'd wear a jock. of course, I wish jocks were required ALL sports... except golf. I had a conversation with a younger man who played golf and I think he said he joked up, but the patrician atmosphere of a golf club somehow excludes the rough and tumble vibe where you wear a jock for real sports. The idea of wearing a jock under golf pants just didn't work for me.

Yeah, my current gym is super prude and it feels like it takes away from the gym culture a bit. But I'm glad you know what I mean about the singlets! I was also surprised my first time wearing one because I just assumed it would feel similarly to compression shorts. It makes sense though since they definitely needed something since I know from experience how common it is to accidentally take a hit to the balls in a real match or practice haha. But that's exactly why I do wear a jock under my singlet normally. And I've never golfed before but I getcha. I wear jocks instead of normal underwear now though so I'd probably just look at it like that for golf too lol

Good man for jocking up under a singlet.

I never wrestled but interested in how many people wear jocks under singlets. Did you wrestle? If so did you wear a jock or go commando? What time frame are we talking? 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, etc?
I wrestled in junior high and high school, 86-92. I always wore a jock under my singlet and under my practice shorts. The rules didn't require it, but my coaches did. (I would have worn it anyways.)

IMHO.... It depends on a guy's netherparts size, weight, and «geometry». Guys with tight balls and reasonably compact dicks simply don't need the SUPPORT of a jock and, given the super-stretchiness of current singlet material, all but the most-prudish now have a chance to have some of their «Best Features» prominently visible and appreciated — something cyclists have been doing for decades! I've noticed some wrestlers sporting those awful ball-crushing Compression Shorts under their singlets and THAT looks positively gauche and prudish. I never took part in Competitive Wrestling but my low-hanging balls would have felt quite vulnerable without the comforting snugness of a jock. In fact I'd have wanted to wear a CUP although that seems to be considered an unforgiveable faux pas for some reason. Err... hmmmmm... so what's up when supposedly str8 boys grab each other between the legs??? Some guys with banana dicks go commando simply because a huge dick flopping about or up and rigid isn't usually painful even when «pinned» but attracts lots of admiring gazes from men and women alike although for (mostly) different reasons! Some of my favourite pix in my extensive collection of non-porn Male Erotica are of HS and college wrestlers with HUGE bulges in their singlets some of which are so revealing you could count the wrinkles in their foreskin - yummmmm! In the final analysis it should be up to whatever is safe and comfortable for the individual — VIVE LA DIFFÉRENCE!

I agree it makes the most sense that a guy's preference to show or not and what they need for their dicks to feel comfortable is likely the deciding factor in what they wear when wrestling. When I first started, I wore compression shorts over my jock to minimize my bulge as it felt quite prominent in just a jock. But as I got to know all the guys and became more comfortable in my own wrestling skills, I quickly switched to wearing just a jock underneath to keep maximum comfort but stop caring about what my bulge looked like. And then commando when I was feeling cheeky

Well... I'd be willing to bet more than a few of «the guys» «cared» quite attentively for your prominent bulge especially when commando in your singlet. I'm still aomewhat curious about those betwee-the-legs holds and the ones one sees with one guy's face jammed into the crotch of his opponent. I.E. at what point does it change from a legit attempt at gaining points to a sexual gesture?

Haha I'm sure they noticed, but when everyone there is clad in skin tight singlets and rolling around all sweaty together, they don't seem to care much. That said, while I did initially gain an interest in the sport for the singlets and sexual nature as well as the respect and masculinity that's a part of it, I fell in love with the sport itself as are most if not all of the guys there. It's still extremely hot to me, don't get me wrong, but when actually on the mat, the sheer amount of physical exhaustion that comes with it makes sexual thoughts take a backseat. In low stakes practices though, it's more common for there to be some teasing and awkward boners haha. But I'm confident that the vast majority or times, when you see these seemingly lewd wrestling moves and holds in real bouts, they really are more tactical and less sexual.
