Some of you might have seen that the Sports Illustrated magazine might be coming to an end. Apparently they laid off a lot of their staff this week. The Detroit Freepress had an article today on Michigan teams/athletes that were featured on the cover of SI over the years and included several of the covers in the article. Of course this one got my attention.

Impact pads. It’s intended to go under the large hip/thigh pads as an extra protection layer — not sure about it being much for the coccyx, but if you’ve ever taken a hit there, you know how painful it is. They protect against the potentially dangerous on target hits better, a bit of the same logic as a compression compress or bandage.
