Physique magazines paved the way for gay magazines and apparently at a price

Thanks for sharing, Charles. Just hearing those stories resurrected the anger and rage that I felt in the late 70s and most of the 80s about the moral crusading bonfire lit by Thatcher’s government and fanned by the mainly tabloid right-wing press against any who wasn’t heterosexual, or appeared to be gay. While this was going on, the British Armed Forces were conducting a witch-hunt against personnel either perceived to be gay, or actually gay.
It was brilliantly captured by the singer Tom Robinson in his song ‘Glad To Be Gay’, sung here in 1979, with his trademark caustic venom he used for the song.

Back in the day - 70s pre-internet - .book stores sold 3-packs of older issues of magazines wrapped in cellophane at a discounted price. You never knew what the middle mag was, but I bought my fair share!

That second magazine, briefsguy with the cover model of the guy sporting an armband marked MP, could describe the almost daily revelations of quite a few of the UK’s, mainly Tory, Members of Parliament (MPs) who have been exposed - in all senses of the word - inappropriately cavorting with young men in, as one of the more salacious tabloids put it, ‘kinky sex acts’, including gay orgies!
